Trinity Questions and Answers
What do we believe?
As members of Christ's church we fully embrace the historic
orthodox creeds of our Christian heritage - among them, the "Apostles' Creed" and the "Nicene Creed." These beliefs we hold in common with the Christian Church in all times and in all places.
- We believe that God has
infallibly revealed Himself and truth about His creation in the Holy
Scriptures. Therefore, we must encourage its faithful study.
- We believe that the true God
exists in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy
Spirit. Therefore, we must worship and exalt the one true God.
- We believe that God created,
ordered, and sustains all things and that He made humans in His own image,
making us responsible for maintaining and cultivating His creation, and,
furthermore, that he called His creation good. Therefore, we must endeavor
to learn how to differentiate that which is good, and support it, from
that which has been corrupted by human sin, and confront it and work
toward redeeming it.
- We believe that evil came into
existence through the rebellion of Satan against God, and that evil became
part of the human condition through the free choice of the first man and
woman, but that Satan has been defeated and humanity is reconciled to the
Father through the sacrificial death of His Son upon the Cross.
Therefore, we must personally accept and proclaim the work of Christ Jesus
His Son.
- We believe that Jesus
mercifully redeems all who call upon His name from the bondage of sin.
Therefore, we must endeavor to lend a helping hand and a listening
ear to the poor, to the prisoner, and to the needy.
- We believe that Jesus was
raised bodily from the grave, ascended into Heaven where He reigns as our
High Priest and eternal advocate, and will return to judge the living and
the dead. Therefore, we must endeavor to learn how to demonstrate
that death has been vanquished, judgment is certain, and prayers are
heard.
- We believe that Jesus Christ,
conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, being absolute
Lord, both true God and true human, remained the perfect Lamb of God
though tempted in all things. Therefore, we hold to the necessity of
and provision for perseverance in biblical faith and holiness.
- We believe that the true Church
is composed of all persons who, through faith in Jesus Christ, have been
regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together to form the Body of
Christ. Therefore, we must endeavor not to elevate our independence
as individuals at the expense of the redemptive development of the church.
- We believe that the ministry of
the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Father and the Son and to convict
humanity regarding righteousness, sin, and judgment, to regenerate the
believing sinner, and to guide, instruct, and empower the believer for
creative and redemptive service. Therefore, we must, in faith and
confidence, recognize Him as the author and finisher of every good
service.
- We believe that the thrust of
Jesus Christ's teaching, ministry, and life revolved around the Kingdom of
God and that, in part, we are currently living within it, but only through
His return will it become complete. Therefore, regardless of when,
where, and how God ushers in His kingdom, we must endeavor to learn how to
love and do good deeds according to Christ's teaching about life in His
kingdom.
"For anyone who is in Christ,
there is a new creation! ... God in Christ is reconciling the world to
Himself ... entrusting to us the ministry of reconciliation."
~ 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only son, our Lord,
who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven;
he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
* "catholic" (lowercase c) means "universal"
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds form the Father and Son,
who with the Father and Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in the one holy catholic* and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
